Guiding Whispers and Simple Statements

Image
The more I think about it, the more I think that God talks to me most in whispers. I have had a few times where God just blew my mind in the ways He’s spoken to me, sure. But I feel like more often than not He gets me to quiet my mind and overwhelming thoughts so I can hear from Him. This makes sense because I’m a ridiculous over-thinker. The amount of analyzing, speculating, and reasoning I go through on a day-to-day basis has actually exhausted other people. It would make sense that in order for me to hear from God I would need to search for that whisper. He shouldn’t have to compete for my attention, so He speaks to me in a way that makes Him the only thing I’m thinking about. This is all to say that I had an experience from God that could only come from me listening to His guiding whispers. Once a month AIM does something called “The Burn” it’s a 12 or 24 hour period of worship where there is always someone worshipping at the office. I love this kind of stuff becau...

What Is The Body?

I love being a part of the Adventures in Missions culture. One of the many reasons is because of Monday morning staff worship. Every Monday the whole staff gets together and we worship for about an hour, just to start the week out on the right foot. These times are refreshing and amazing. Not only for the worship, but the community overall. I’m sort of a reserved worshipper, so I like to sit back sometimes and watch everyone in action. It’s so cool to see everyone worship in their own specific ways. I’ve gotten to the point where seeing people in their worship element gives me a lot of joy. Even helps me worship a bit. But it’s also in these times that I contemplate the theme of the “Body of Christ.” Often times you hear people use that term. I use it pretty regularly myself. But I think the term and the theme itself has been a bit skewed. The way I hear it these days (generally speaking) is that the body of believers is whomever you have things in common with. Those that wors...

It Has Begun!

Well, I’m finally here. I’m sitting in my pretty awesome house in Gainesville, Georgia. Technically I’ve been here since September 12 th , but this is the first time life has slowed down enough for me to actually give everyone an update! Let me begin by saying that I am extremely pleased with my decision to come here. It’s been something of a non-stop ride since I got here, and I’ve loved it. Being at the Adventures in Missions headquarters is awesome. I could probably sit here and talk about how cool everything is, but then you’d never actually know what I’m doing! So I’ll talk about that instead. To preface, God has taught and spoke to me about a ton of different things in the short span I’ve been here. I mean, I’ve learned new lessons and re-learned old ones. Now that I think about it, it’s been kinda crazy. I’ll try and be brief to let you hear a bit about some of them! The first week we were here was called “Ramp Up Week.” Basically it was a week long orientation ...

A Message to the Preceding Generations

Last week I was at Project Searchlight. It was amazing. A truly incredible time of worship and self-discovery through God. It’s essentially a time where all the squads that launched together come to Gainesville, Georgia for a week and hang out while learning more about what God has for them. It’s a time to be poured into by alumni racers, and the staff of AIM as well as many others. During this time I felt a huge push with my calling. I felt encouraged, emboldened, and just plain excited. Ready to go running into whatever God has for me. Ready to get shoulder deep in the issues of the American church. But more about that in a different blog. I wanted to address something else in this post. I wanted to send a message to the preceding generations. A message that is more or less on behalf of my own generation.  I wanted everyone to know that we’re coming. We’re on our way. By “we” I mean my generation. And by “coming” I mean we’ve heard our callings. We’ve hea...
